Each character is brought to life though a process…

My characters start as things in my head whether it’s something I’ve seen or something that just pops in. I do some sketching and refining. I hand-paint each character and they often go through several stages. For instance, Fanny had a different body to start. Poor Buzzbee changed shape and colors so many times I nearly gave up! But he was too important to just let go. I saw Postmaster Pelican Pete in my head and got up at 5 am to paint him. I just had to see if what I saw was going to translate.

Their stories and antics come about in somewhat the same way but there’s a bit more to that. I’ll share that process another time.
